Kula buoyed by gold potential at historic South West mine

Kula Gold says it has identified substantial gold prospectivity at the historic Cammilleri mine within its Brunswick project in Western Australia’s South West region after a review of mineral exploration data.
The Cammilleri mine area historically produced 236.73 gold ounces and the company has received laboratory results of up to 11.19 grams per tonne from a chip and mapping program at the site last month.
Management is now in the process of reassaying samples from a 2003 reverse-circulation (RC) campaign at the nearby Mt Cara mine using fire assay methodology, while gold was panned by an on-site geologist using 1m samples from one particular hole at a depth of 27m.
According to mineral exploration reports from the WA Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, highly variable gold assays have been identified using the aqua regia technique in the area covering 2m composites, with Kula noting quartz veins from relogging that have haematite alteration and nuggety-gold style of mineralisation.
Aqua regia is a partial digestion technique using nitric and hydrochloric acid. Management says the process is known for not being able to provide a full digestion in coarse gold nuggets.
Additionally, the relogging of the RC drill chips has provided evidence of more intervals of potential gold mineralisation. Results are at the laboratory pending results from fire assay, which is considered more accurate for nuggety-gold style of mineralisation.
The Brunswick project area boasts the historical Cammilleri and Blackwood Venture mines where gold was mined by hand many years ago. Cammilleri was mined at a gold grade of 130g/t and up to a whopping 146g/t, resulting in the 236.73 ounces of gold from 51.35 tonnes of ore.
Blackwood Venture was a bit smaller and mined 20.75 tonnes of ore at 32.7g/t gold to produce 24 ounces.
The Cammilleri prospect also sits on trend with the historic Donnybrook Gold Mine that operated in the early 1900s. Interestingly, one of the Donnybrook Gold Mine shafts, called the Queen of the South, produced 35kg of gold from 320 tonnes of hand-mined ore – at an impressive grade of 109g/t.
Kula has submitted a program of work in preparation for drilling as soon as results are received and analysed.
