Zimbabwe’s Gold Production Hits Record 46.7 Tonnes In 2025

Mon Jan 12 2026

Zimbabwe’s gold production increased by 17 per cent in 2025, reaching a record high of 46.7 tonnes, up from 36.48 tonnes in 2024, according to Fidelity Gold Refinery (FGR), the country’s sole gold buyer.

Speaking in an interview with ZBC on Wednesday, FGR Chief Executive Officer Peter Magaramombe said the record output was driven by strong global gold prices and supportive government policies for the mining sector.

He said gold is a key part of Zimbabwe’s economy, with both large-scale mines and artisanal and small-scale miners contributing to production.

FGR reported that artisanal and small-scale miners delivered 34.9 tonnes of gold in 2025, while large-scale mining companies supplied 11.8 tonnes.

Gold remains Zimbabwe’s leading mineral export and the backbone of the mining sector, accounting for more than 70 per cent of the country’s annual foreign currency earnings.
