Synopsis: The mining industry is fast emerging as an integral contributor to national revenue.
Cambodia’s gold mining sector has hit a major milestone, producing approximately 20 tonnes of gold dore bars of a 90 percent pure gold solution between June 2021 and June 2026, a report from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) showed yesterday.
The MME highlighted that the mining industry is fast becoming an integral contributor to national revenue.
In the first half of 2026, the MME earned over $93 million in non-tax revenue from all types of mining operations, said Ung Dipola, Director-General of the General Department of Mineral Resources at the MME. The total does not include taxes, customs duties and other fees paid by mining companies, he said.
“Cambodia’s mining sector significantly contributes to national development through infrastructure development, national income generation, and job creation for citizens,” Dipola said at a press conference held on Sunday.
According to the ministry’s report, non-tax revenue generated from the mining sector has risen significantly, increasing from $13 million in 2016 to $135 million in 2025.
To date, total investment in the mining sector has reached approximately $2.89 billion, creating over 12,000 direct jobs. Of these, Cambodian nationals account for 11,547 positions, representing about 95 percent of the workforce.
According to the MME, the operation of mineral resources at this site and the gold refinery has been implementing the principles of health, safety, and environment, as well as paying close attention to the community, Dipola said.
