Recently, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources released information confirming that the Sukhoi Log gold deposit, located in the Bodaibo District of Irkutsk Oblast in Eastern Siberia, has gold reserves exceeding 2,770 tons. According to calculations based on the disclosed data, the resource scale of the Sukhoi Log gold deposit will surpass other famous large-scale gold mines such as the Pebble Mine in Alaska, USA (approximately 2,172.2 tons), the Olympic Dam gold mine in Australia (approximately 2,040.4 tons), and the Grasberg gold mine in Indonesia (approximately 1,679.6 tons), ranking it among the most prominent gold deposits globally in terms of reserves.
Simultaneously, the Russian side announced a list of the country's three core gold mines: Sukhoi Log, the Natalka gold mine in Magadan, and the Olimpiada gold mine in Krasnoyarsk. The combined gold reserves of these three deposits account for over 30% of Russia's total gold reserves. The Sukhoi Log gold deposit was discovered as early as 1961 and has long been considered the largest undeveloped gold mine in the world; however, large-scale industrial mining has not yet been carried out at the site to date.
