Luk Fook Holdings has reported an improvement in its fourth-quarter results, mainly thanks to growth in the Mainland China market.

The group’s retail sales value (RSV) for the quarter ended March 31 was down 2 per cent, including an 11 per cent drop in Hong Kong and Macau and a 1 per cent increase in Mainland China.

Retailing revenue fell 1 per cent, with Hong Kong and Macau down 11 per cent and Mainland China up 20 per cent.

Same-store sales slid 10 per cent, with Hong Kong and Macau decreasing 14 per cent and Mainland China rising 2 per cent.

Management said overall retail sales in the fourth quarter outperformed the first three quarters. They added that fixed price gold products helped drive positive growth in Mainland China and improvement in the Hong Kong and Macau markets.

The group ended the quarter with 3287 shops, including 3179 in Mainland China and 77 in Hong Kong and Macau.

Luk Fook said its same-store sales have shown further improvement in the first week of the new fiscal year, with a double-digit increase in the Mainland market and single-digit increase in Hong Kong and Macau.

The group said it remains cautiously optimistic about the mid- to long-term prospects in the Mainland and plans to expand its footprint in the market.
